Miata?
or the eventual US-spec S1000 (slightly grown-up S660)?
Choose.

Miata, because it's the only one of the two that will actually be sold in the US.

MX-5. I can't get away from the fact that the Honda looks like Malibu Barbie's DreamCar. Aesthetically, it's got nothing.

Lincoln Town Car

Alfa, because Carbon.

S1000. Duh, because VTEC and the spirit of the old S600, Beat, and S2000.

Shit, I knew I forgot something.
But wait! Fiat will have a 124 Spider. Oh, it's based on the Miata.
![]() 03/30/2015 at 22:32 |

Agreed.
It's also a way more unique, and I think cooler, car than the Miata.

Miata. I'm not crazy about the Mazda's front fascia, but it's a step up from the dopey smiley face, and that Honda is fucking overwrought with forced lines. Maybe the "slightly grown-up" version eliminates the some of the busy-ness on the front end and on the doors, then I'd re-evaluate. Give me another S2000 that's not over-styled thats sharp but cohesive like the S2000 and I'd pick that surely.

Some have such a hard time following the rules! I dig the bike, and your two points are valid, but it's got a whiff of "Neither, I'd rather drive my (insert eff-you supercar here) than drive a poor mans convertible!

S1000!
Although I'd prefer a S3000 or so.

hard?
It's easy. Drive both and flip a coin. Heads Miata, Tails Honda. If it lands on a side you didn't want then go with the other one.

Though to non-gear heads it will just be another "chick's car"
Sad.
Time to go back to this:
Because station wagon "sports car".

Yes, yes I do.

It looks much better then both and I can almost guarantee the prices will drop once the reg edition hits the US I also bet the depreciation will hit like a brick, I'm gonna guess it will fall to sub 30k in 4 years.

I highly doubt we're ever going to see the S660 here in any form. The cheapest and easiest time to engineer a car for FMVSS is while it's still under development, and Honda didn't do that. Doubtful they could develop a business case for it now. Honda's US sales team might want a sports car, but it doesn't mean the company is in a position to give it to them.
![]() 03/30/2015 at 22:52 |

The Miata's new styling is also damn well underappreciated- if you can't get over the face then just look at the sides or rear- it's such a smooth and flowing design, while the S660 is more sharp and angular.

Miata.
![]() 03/30/2015 at 23:44 |

ND. Don't like the looks of the Honda at all.
![]() 03/30/2015 at 23:52 |

Since I don't want to wait 25 years for the S660, I'll be going with the Miata. Oh wait, I was going with the Miata anyway.

63 hp. Oh but it's light you say? At 1850 lbs, it's the equivalent of a car weighing 3700 with 126 hp. C&D's performance stats have the 0-100 as N/A, for Not Achievable?
Zero to 60 mph: 13.2-13.6 sec
Zero to 100 mph: N/A
Standing ¼-mile: 19.0-19.4 sec
Top speed: 87 mph

I highly doubt it will get sub $30k in 4 years, it's too rare. It'll be more like a Lotus Elise, which 4 year old models are still $50k+
![]() 03/31/2015 at 09:59 |
|
It won't be rare once the reg edition hit here, it's gonna be a continuous model or should be it will maybe get first Gen GT500 pricing at least.
![]() 03/31/2015 at 10:36 |

What?
Do you do any research or just talk out your ass?
The target is 1200 hard tops and 400 spiders per year. 1600 cars per year is pretty damn rare. Especially when you consider the starting price is around $50k and its a niche product, these are going to hold value really well. Again, look at the Lotus Elise: small production numbers, limited dealer network, specialized product, and they are holding value really well over short term. In fairness Lotus doesn't sell them here anymore, but who's to say Alfa will be here for the long run?
![]() 03/31/2015 at 10:40 |
|
Well FCA Plans on bringing more Alfas over here so who knows. Also if you go to cars.com you can see the prices on the Lotus Elise are in the mid to low 30's so my guess isnt far off. If you start to get into the newer ones then ya it get's more expensive but the first ones like the 2005-07 ones are in the range I was talking about.

You said 4 years. So look at a 4 year old Lotus.
If you had said 6-8 years I might agree that it would be under $30k, but I don't think it will get there. Plus in 6-8 years an ND Miata will be $15k or less so it's a moot point
